Starbucks Branding in Motion Reels
For a motion graphics project I developed a demo reel for Starbucks. My goal was to advertise the brands image through animation and time-based movement.
Created copy of Starbucks logo in adobe illustrator using pen tool.
Enhanced proficiency in adobe after effects using position key frames, scale, rotation, opacity, wiggle paths, radial wipe, camera zoom, and parent and linking null objects
Animated logo to come to life in different layers and compositions.
Developed multiple reels for brand concept.
Established aesthetic derived from the Starbucks brand; color and font.
Communicated with others for guidance, inspiration, feedback, and critique.
Pre-production
To reflect the brands image successfully, I produced a simple design board consisting of moments I wanted to highlight during the composition. Planning these key moments helped me further develop my idea, guiding me in the right direction for my project.
Production
During production I first prepared my assets in adobe illustrator by creating a copy of the logo using the pen tool in numerous layers so that I would be able to animate each layer separately. Preparing the assets in separate layers allowed me to have full reign over animating the logo in after effects.
Adobe After Effects
After I prepared my assets in illustrator, I imported the layers into after effects and animated the logo in separate layers using lots of techniques consisting of position key frames, scale, rotation, opacity, wiggle paths, radial wipes, camera zoom, as well as parenting and linking null objects.
Utilizing these techniques for this project further advanced my skillset in adobe after effects.
Final thoughts
I was not only able to produce a successful demo reel for Starbucks, but advance my skillset in preparing assets during pre-production and animating in adobe after effects during production. I was also able to reflect the brands image successfully by staying consistent with the brands style using their colors and fonts. Ultimately, I was able to depict branding in motion, combining both visual aesthetic and animation to make the brand come to life.
